EV Charger Grants 2026 | Underwood Electrical Ltd
12 September, 2026

EV Charger Grants 2026 - Could You Get Up to £500 Towards Your Installation?

If you're considering installing an EV charger at home or at work, you could be eligible for government support towards the cost.

From 1 April 2026, several OZEV electric vehicle chargepoint grants increased to up to £500 per socket, and the current schemes are available until 31 March 2027.

What's particularly interesting is that grants aren't limited to conventional workplaces. Renters, flat owners, landlords and even some small businesses primarily run from a residential address may be eligible.

EV Charger Grant for Renters and Flat Owners

If you rent your home or own a flat, you could qualify for help towards installing an EV charger.

The grant can cover 75% of the cost of purchasing and installing an eligible chargepoint, up to a maximum of £500.

To qualify, you'll need to meet the scheme requirements, which include having eligible private off-street parking and owning or using an eligible electric vehicle.

If you're renting, you'll also need permission from your landlord or property manager. Importantly, the grant needs to be approved before the charger is installed.

Workplace EV Charger Grant - Up to £500 Per Socket

Businesses, charities and public sector organisations may qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme.

The scheme can contribute up to 75% of the purchase and installation cost, capped at £500 per socket.

Eligible organisations can claim support for up to 40 sockets across their sites.

For businesses considering multiple EV chargers for employees or company vehicles, this can represent a significant contribution towards the installation.

Run Your Business From Home?

This is something many small-business owners don't realise.

If your business is primarily run from a residential property, you may still be able to qualify for the Workplace Charging Scheme.

There is a specific claim process available for eligible small businesses primarily run from residential properties.

So if your company is registered and genuinely operated from your home address, don't automatically assume you're excluded from the workplace grant.

Speak to us first and we can check whether the proposed installation appears to meet the scheme requirements.

Landlords

Residential landlords can also benefit from the current grant scheme.

Eligible landlords can receive 75% towards the cost of purchasing and installing chargepoints, up to £500 per socket.

Landlords can potentially claim for up to 200 sockets per year across their properties, subject to the eligibility requirements.

This can be particularly useful for landlords looking to provide EV charging at rented houses, flats and apartment developments.

No Driveway?

There is also a grant for eligible households with on-street parking.

This is designed for households that need an approved cross-pavement charging solution to enable an EV to be charged safely where conventional off-street charging isn't available.

The grant has also increased to a maximum of £500 from April 2026.

Schools and Education

State-funded schools and education institutions have an even larger level of support available.

Eligible organisations can currently receive up to £2,000 per charging socket, with support available for up to 40 sockets.

Choosing the Right EV Charger

Getting the grant is only one part of the installation.

We also consider:

  • Your incoming electrical supply
  • Existing electrical demand
  • Available capacity
  • Load management
  • Solar PV integration
  • Battery storage
  • Smart electricity tariffs
  • Current and future EV requirements

For homes with solar and battery storage, a suitable smart EV charger can become part of a much wider home-energy system.

How Does the Grant Process Work?

The exact process depends on which grant you're applying for.

Generally, eligibility needs to be established and the appropriate application or voucher obtained before installation.

The charger must also be an eligible model and the installation needs to be completed by an OZEV-authorised installer for the relevant scheme.

That's why we'd recommend speaking to us before purchasing a charger or arranging installation.
